Ce logiciel bilingue se compose d’un outil d’identification de 100 espèces de Culicidae (larves, adultes femelles et mâles) et d’une base de connaissances sur ces moustiques signalés dans 37 pays d’Europe géographique et Madère. Le programme informatique permet une identification par approche multicritère permanente et intuitive (critères de morphologie, d’écologie et de répartition) à l’aide de choix successifs proposés par des images. Des fiches taxonomiques autorisent une vérification minutieuse du résultat ainsi qu’une comparaison entre espèces proches. Plus de 800 illustrations originales sont fournies dans cet ouvrage. En complément, le logiciel donne une information synthétique et actualisée sur la bio-écologie, la répartition, le rôle médical ou vétérinaire de ces redoutables insectes hématophages, ainsi que les méthodes de lutte permettant leur contrôle. Une bibliographie indexée de 325 références est également consultable. Très facile d’emploi, il s’adresse aux enseignants, aux étudiants, aux entomologistes médicaux, aux parasitologistes, et à tous les agents de santé humaine ou vétérinaire en charge de surveillance et de lutte contre les moustiques.

The bilingual CD-ROM (English/French) proposes identification software, which allows the identification of 100 species of Culicidae (larvae, female and male adults of the genera Aedes, Anopheles, Culex, Culiseta, Coquillettidia, Ochlerotatus, Orthopodomyia and Uranotaenia) and a knowledge base on these mosquitoes. The study area includes 37 countries of geographical Europe plus Madeira. Contrary to the dichotomy keys, the “identiciel” allows an identification by permanent and intuitive multicriterial approach. With each step, the user selects one of the criteria suggested among morphology, ecology and distribution. He progresses towards the identification of the species by successive choices suggested by images. At the end of the process, taxonomic cards authorise a meticulous checking of the result as well as a comparison with close species. More than 800 original illustrations will be provided, the software also gives synthetic information and bring up to date data on taxonomy, bio-ecology, distribution, medical or veterinary importance of these dangerous hematophagous insects, as well as methods of control. An indexed bibliography of 325 references is included. Easily used, this CD-ROM is intended for teachers, students, medical entomologists, parasitologists, and all agents of human health or veterinary surgeons in charge of monitoring and control of mosquitoes.
